Seventh Day Adventism Is Not Consistent With The Bible

A False Prophet Charlatan Created Seventh Day Adventism

Seventh Day Adventism is an anti-Catholic and non-Biblical sect.

It branched off of the earlier Millerite Adventist sect.

Firstly, William Miller, false prophet of the Millerite Adventist sect, falsely predicted the coming of Christ on October 22, 1844.

This never happened and is also in contradiction to Matthew 24:36.

After this Great Disappointment, many then left the Adventist movement, and others created new sects.

Thus, false prophet and charlatan, Ellen G. White, created the Seventh Day Adventist sect.

Ellen White is certainly a known heretic, plagiarist, and liar.

Dr. Gerhard Pfandl, a Seventh Day Adventism theologian, while talking about the Trinitarian views of White, says:

Our pioneers [Ellen White] clearly held Arian or Semi-Arian views in regard to the person of Christ.

The Doctrine of the Trinity Among Seventh-day Adventists

Dr. Walter Martin, founder of the Christian Research Institute, certainly echoed this view.

Dr. Walter Martin also found SDA to be a sect, and believed Ellen White to be a liar and plagiarist.

Also, Dr. Walter Rea, former Seventh Day Adventism “pastor”, proved that Ellen White was a plagiarist.

Rea wrote The White Lie, which certainly proves that the majority of White’s “visions” were actually her plagiarizing other books!

The YouTube channel, Test the Prophet, also goes through White’s books and the plagiarized books and proves Rea’s accusations!

Seventh Day Adventism theologian Dr. Desmond Ford found out that Ellen White was wrong about Investigative Judgement.

As a result, the Seventh Day leaders fired Ford in 1980.

Ellen White had other bizarre “visions” that were lies, like seeing tall people on Jupiter and/or Saturn.

See the websites nonsda.org and Catholic Answers; and the YouTube channels AcademyApologia and Former Adventists Australia, for more errors of Ellen White.

So do William Miller and Ellen White meet the criteria for a “false prophet”? Let’s see…

Scripture On False Prophets

Both William Miller and Ellen White do meet the criteria for “false prophets”, according to the Bible:

Deuteronomy 18:22

Thou shalt have this sign: Whatsoever that same prophet foretelleth in the name of the Lord, and it cometh not to pass: that thing the Lord hath not spoken, but the prophet hath forged it by the pride of his mind: and therefore thou shalt not fear him.

Deuteronomy 18:22

Matthew 7:15-20

Beware of false prophets, who come to you in the clothing of sheep, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. By their fruits you shall know them. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit, and the evil tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can an evil tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit, shall be cut down, and shall be cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits you shall know them.

Matthew 7:15-20

2 Timothy 4:3-4

For there shall be a time, when they will not endure sound doctrine; but, according to their own desires, they will heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears: And will indeed turn away their hearing from the truth, but will be turned unto fables.

2 Timothy 4:3-4

2 Peter 1:20

Understanding this first, that no prophecy of scripture is made by private interpretation.

2 Peter 1:20

2 Peter 2:1-2

But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there shall be among you lying teachers, who shall bring in sects of perdition, and deny the Lord who bought them: bringing upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their riotousnesses, through whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.

2 Peter 2:1-2

Matthew 24:36

All Adventist groups that predict Christ’s coming (including Seventh Day Adventism) violate Christ’s teaching:

But of that day and hour no one knoweth, not the angels of heaven, but the Father alone.

Matthew 24:36

1 Timothy 2:12

And St. Paul makes it clear that women, like Ellen White, do not have public teaching authority over men, especially regarding infallibly interpreting Scripture, like a Pope, in the church:

But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to use authority over the man: but to be in silence.

1 Timothy 2:12
False Prophet Ellen White

“Investigative Judgement” Is a False doctrine of Seventh Day Adventism

Seventh Day Adventism pushes this false doctrine of “investigative judgement.”

As I said before, former Seventh Day Adventism “pastors” such as Desmond Ford and Dale Ratzlaff, have proven this doctrine wrong.

But what is “investigative judgement”, and why is it wrong?

Seventh Day Adventism Definition Of “Investigative Judgement”

SDA defines “investigative judgement” as this:

There is a sanctuary in heaven, the true tabernacle that the Lord set up and not humans. In it Christ ministers on our behalf, making available to believers the benefits of His atoning sacrifice offered once for all on the cross.

At His ascension, He was inaugurated as our great High Priest and began His intercessory ministry, which was typified by the work of the high priest in the holy place of the earthly sanctuary.

In 1844, at the end of the prophetic period of 2300 days, He entered the second and last phase of His atoning ministry, which was typified by the work of the high priest in the most holy place of the earthly sanctuary.

It is a work of investigative judgment, which is part of the ultimate disposition of all sin, typified by the cleansing of the ancient Hebrew sanctuary on the Day of Atonement. In that typical service the sanctuary was cleansed with the blood of animal sacrifices, but the heavenly things are purified with the perfect sacrifice of the blood of Jesus.

The investigative judgment reveals to heavenly intelligences who among the dead are asleep in Christ and therefore, in Him, are deemed worthy to have part in the first resurrection.

It also makes manifest who among the living are abiding in Christ, keeping the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus, and in Him, therefore, are ready for translation into His everlasting kingdom.

This judgment vindicates the justice of God in saving those who believe in Jesus. It declares that those who have remained loyal to God shall receive the kingdom. The completion of this ministry of Christ will mark the close of human probation before the Second Advent.

Official Beliefs of the Seventh-day Adventist Church
Seventh Day Adventism Investigative Judgement

Why Is “Investigative Judgement” Wrong?

So Seventh Day Adventism derives this false doctrine from Daniel 8:14 specifically.

But what does Daniel 8:14 say?

Daniel 8:14

And he said to him: Unto evening and morning two thousand three hundred days: and the sanctuary shall be cleansed.

Daniel 8:14

Notice that there is nothing in this passage about this happening in 1844, when Ellen White coincidentally founded Seventh Day Adventism.

But does Daniel 8:14 really support the idea of “investigative judgement”? Not really.

Catholics believe that this chapter refers to the persecution of Hebrews in Jerusalem by the Greek King Antiochus IV Epiphanes.

The Haydock Commentary says:

[Regarding 2300 days] That is, six years and almost four months; which was the whole time from the beginning of the persecution of Antiochus till his death. (Challoner) — He began in the year 143, and died in the year 149, according to the era of Seleucus. (Haydock) — The temple was purified in the mean time, 1 Machabees i. 21., and vi. 16. (Worthington) — Full days are specified. Sacrifice entirely ceased for three years, in the year 145, chap. vii. 25. Symmachus has 2,400, others 2,200, as quoted by St. Jerome. We know not whether the solar year of 365 days, or the lunar of 354, be meant.

The Haydock Commentary On Daniel 8:14

Moreover, if you actually read through Daniel 8, it is clear the context here is the persecution of Hebrews by Antiochus.

The Archangel Gabriel even says so!

Daniel 8:20-26

The Archangel Gabriel explains the vision Daniel had in Daniel 8:1-14 as such:

The ram, which thou sawest with horns, is the king of the Medes and Persians. And the he goat, is the king of the Greeks, and the great horn that was between his eyes, the same is the first king. But whereas when that was broken, there arose up four for it: four kings shall rise up of his nation, but not with his strength. And after their reign, when iniquities shall be grown up, there shall arise a king of a shameless face, and understanding dark sentences. And his power shall be strengthened, but not by his own force: and he shall lay all things waste, and shall prosper, and do more than can be believed. And he shall destroy the mighty, and the people of the saints,

According to his will, and craft shall be successful in his hand: and his heart shall be puffed up, and in the abundance of all things he shall kill many: and he shall rise up against the prince of princes, and shall be broken without hand. And the vision of the evening and the morning, which was told, is true: thou therefore seal up the vision, because it shall come to pass after many days.

Daniel 8:20-26

And as we know, this vision came to pass in the second century BC when Antiochus persecuted Jerusalem (by desecrating the Temple and abolishing daily sacrifice) for 6 years, 4 months (2300 days).

Moreover, the Seventh Day Adventism adherents would know about the Maccabean Revolt that ended Antiochus’s persecution if they hadn’t taken 1 Machabees and 2 Machabees out of their Bible!

“Investigative Judgement” Denies The Omniscience Of God

Catholics believe that God is omniscient.

However, Seventh Day Adventism adherents apparently do not believe this.

Seventh Day Adventism adherents believe that Christ started investigating the lives of everyone in 1844, and continues to do so to this day.

If Christ needs almost 2 centuries (so far) to figure out who is the Elect or reprobate, then that would mean He is not omniscient.

And this is heretical. How do we know this is heretical? Well the Bible tells us this.

Psalm 147:4-5

He numbers the stars, and gives to all of them their names.

Great is our Lord, vast in power, with wisdom beyond measure.

Psalm 147:4-5

Jeremiah 1:4-5

And the word of the Lord came to me, saying: Before I formed thee in the bowels of thy mother, I knew thee: and before thou camest forth out of the womb, I sanctified thee, and made thee a prophet unto the nations.

Jeremias (Jeremiah) 1:4-5]

Matthew 10:29-30

Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and not one of them shall fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

Matthew 10:29-30

Acts 15:18

To the Lord was his own work known from the beginning of the world.

Acts of Apostles 15:18

Romans 8:29-30

For whom he foreknew, he also predestinated to be made conformable to the image of his Son; that he might be the firstborn amongst many brethren. And whom he predestinated, them he also called. And whom he called, them he also justified. And whom he justified, them he also glorified.

Romans 8:29-30

Ephesians 1:4-11

As he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and unspotted in his sight in charity. Who hath predestinated us unto the adoption of children through Jesus Christ unto himself: according to the purpose of his will: Unto the praise of the glory of his grace, in which he hath graced us in his beloved son. In whom we have redemption through his blood, the remission of sins, according to the riches of his grace, Which hath superabounded in us in all wisdom and prudence,

That he might make known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure, which he hath purposed in him, In the dispensation of the fulness of times, to re-establish all things in Christ, that are in heaven and on earth, in him. In whom we also are called by lot, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things according to the counsel of his will.

Ephesians 1:4-11

1 John 3:20

For if our heart reprehend us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.

1 John 3:20

In other words, we know from the Bible that God is omniscient and knows everything we do before we are born.

Thus, He already knows who will be the Elect and who will be the damned from the beginning of time.

The Most High, who knows all, does not need any temporal time in “investigating” sins for His judgement!

Christ Entered The Heavenly Sanctuary In 33 AD

Seventh Day Adventism says Christ entered the Heavenly Sanctuary in 1844 AD.

However, we know this is false, since Christ entered the Heavenly Sanctuary in 33 AD.

How do we know this? Well, let’s read the Bible and show how it supports Catholic teaching.

Hebrews 9:11-13

But when Christ came as high priest of the good things that have come to be, passing through the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made by hands, that is, not belonging to this creation, he entered once for all into the sanctuary, not with the blood of goats and calves but with his own blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption. For if the blood of goats and bulls and the sprinkling of a heifer’s ashes can sanctify those who are defiled so that their flesh is cleansed,

Hebrews 9:11-13

Hebrews 9:24-26

For Christ did not enter into a sanctuary made by hands, a copy of the true one, but heaven itself, that he might now appear before God on our behalf. Not that he might offer himself repeatedly, as the high priest enters each year into the sanctuary with blood that is not his own; if that were so, he would have had to suffer repeatedly from the foundation of the world. But now once for all he has appeared at the end of the ages to take away sin by his sacrifice.

Hebrews 9:24-26

Do you see how St. Paul wrote this? This is in past tense.

In other words, it already happened by the time St. Paul wrote Hebrews.

Moreover, Hebrews 9:24 clarifies that the Heavenly Sanctuary is Heaven itself!

Thus, Christ entered the Heavenly Sanctuary, which is Heaven, to be with the Father in 33 AD, not 1844 AD.

Seventh Day Adventism Practices The Sabbath Because It Denies The Old Covenant Is Superseded

Seventh Day Adventism claims that Saturday Sabbath observance is necessary for Salvation.

The Seventh Day Adventism sect believes this because they don’t believe the New Covenant superseded the Old Covenant.

So let’s look to the Bible to show how they are wrong.

Then we will prove that Sunday worship is Christian.

God Resting On Sabbath

The Old Covenant Is Abolished

The New Covenant that Christ signed with His Blood replaced the Old Covenant, which is no more.

We know this because the Bible tells us so. Let’s take a look, shall we?

Note that the New Testament sometimes refers to the Old Covenant/Testament as “the law” and the New Covenant/Testament as “the law of Christ”.

Romans 7:4

Therefore, my brethren, you also are become dead to the law, by the body of Christ; that you may belong to another, who is risen again from the dead, that we may bring forth fruit to God.

Romans 7:4

1 Corinthians 9:20-21

St. Paul says he isn’t under the old law (because it is no more) and says he is in the law of Christ:

And I became to the Jews, a Jew, that I might gain the Jews: To them that are under the law, as if I were under the law, (whereas myself was not under the law,) that I might gain them that were under the law. To them that were without the law, as if I were without the law, (whereas I was not without the law of God, but was in the law of Christ,) that I might gain them that were without the law.

1 Corinthians 9:20-21

Galatians 6:2

Bear ye one another’s burdens; and so you shall fulfill the law of Christ.

Galatians 6:2

Ephesians 2:14-15

Christ made Jews and Gentiles one under the New Covenant, rending the Old Covenant obsolete:

For He is our peace, who hath made both one, and breaking down the middle wall of partition, the enmities in his flesh: Making void the law of commandments contained in decrees; that He might make the two in himself into one new man, making peace;

Ephesians 2:14-15

Hebrews 7:11-12

St. Paul says the new priesthood of Christ necessarily abrogates the old law and creates a new law of Christ:

If then perfection was by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise according to the order of Melchisedech, and not be called according to the order of Aaron? For the priesthood being translated, it is necessary that a translation also be made of the law.

Hebrews 7:11-12

Hebrews 9:15-17

Christ’s death abrogated the Old Testament and ushered in the New Testament:

And therefore He is the mediator of the new testament: that by means of his death, for the redemption of those transgressions, which were under the former testament, they that are called may receive the promise of eternal inheritance. For where there is a testament, the death of the testator must of necessity come in. For a testament is of force, after men are dead: otherwise it is as yet of no strength, whilst the testator liveth.

Hebrews 9:15-17

Hebrews 10:11-18

There is no need for the sacrifices of the old law of Moses because the Sacrifice of Christ began the New Testament and paid for all sins:

And every priest indeed standeth daily ministering, and often offering the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But this man offering one sacrifice for sins, for ever sitteth on the right hand of God, From henceforth expecting, until his enemies be made his footstool. For by one oblation he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. And the Holy Ghost also doth testify this to us. For after that he said:

And this is the testament which I will make unto them after those days, saith the Lord. I will give my laws in their hearts, and on their minds will I write them: And their sins and iniquities I will remember no more. Now where there is a remission of these, there is no more an oblation for sin.

Hebrews 10:11-18

Thus, St. Paul makes it crystal clear in the New Testament that the Old Covenant is no more.

Seventh Day Adventism Is A Judaizer Sect

Seventh Day Adventism pushes the Judaizer heresy, which is condemned in the Bible.

Again, I will prove that the Bible condemns Judaizing in the following sections.

Acts 15:1-5

Acts 15 describes the Council of Jerusalem, where Sts. Paul and Barnabas came to the 12 Apostles, and told them that Jewish converts were demanding that Gentiles follow the Old Law:

And some coming down from Judea, taught the brethren: That except you be circumcised after the manner of Moses, you cannot be saved. And when Paul and Barnabas had no small contest with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas, and certain others of the other side, should go up to the apostles and priests to Jerusalem about this question. They therefore being brought on their way by the church, passed through Phenice, and Samaria, relating the conversion of the Gentiles; and they caused great joy to all the brethren. And when they were come to Jerusalem, they were received by the church, and by the apostles and ancients, declaring how great things God had done with them. But there arose some of the sect of the Pharisees that believed, saying: They must be circumcised, and be commanded to observe the law of Moses.

Acts of Apostles 15:1-5

Acts 15:6-11

St. Peter’s response to this problem was this:

And the apostles and ancients assembled to consider of this matter. And when there had been much disputing, Peter, rising up, said to them: Men, brethren, you know, that in former days God made choice among us, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel, and believe. And God, who knoweth the hearts, gave testimony, giving unto them the Holy Ghost, as well as to us; And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. Now therefore, why tempt you God to put a yoke upon the necks of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear?

But by the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, we believe to be saved, in like manner as they also.

Acts of Apostles 15:6-11

Acts 15:19-20

Finally, St. James, the bishop of Jerusalem, who presided over this council, made a decision in communion with his Pope, St. Peter, saying:

For which cause I judge that they, who from among the Gentiles are converted to God, are not to be disquieted. But that we write unto them, that they refrain themselves from the pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.

Acts of Apostles 15:19-20

Thus, the Church decided from thence forth that Gentiles need not assent to the Old Law, and those that force them are in error.

Galatians 2:11-14

St. Paul even admonishes the first Pope, St. Peter, in Antioch for Judaizing!

But when Cephas was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed. For before that some came from James, he did eat with the Gentiles: but when they were come, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing them who were of the circumcision. And to his dissimulation the rest of the Jews consented, so that Barnabas also was led by them into that dissimulation. But when I saw that they walked not uprightly unto the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas before them all: If thou, being a Jew, livest after the manner of the Gentiles, and not as the Jews do, how dost thou compel the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?

Galatians 2:11-14

Galatians 2:16

And St. Paul condemned anyone (especially the Galatians) for believing that they could be justified through the works of the Old Law.

But knowing that man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ; we also believe in Christ Jesus, that we may be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: because by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified.

Galatians 2:16

Galatians 4:21

Tell me, you that desire to be under the law, have you not read the law?

Galatians 4:21

Galatians 5:2-10

Behold, I Paul tell you, that if you be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing. And I testify again to every man circumcising himself, that he is a debtor to the whole law. You are made void of Christ, you who are justified in the law: you are fallen from grace. For we in spirit, by faith, wait for the hope of justice. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision: but faith that worketh by charity.

You did run well, who hath hindered you, that you should not obey the truth? This persuasion is not from him that calleth you. A little leaven corrupteth the whole lump. I have confidence in you in the Lord: that you will not be of another mind: but he that troubleth you, shall bear the judgment, whosoever he be.

Galatians 5:2-10

Galatians 6:12-15

For as many as desire to please in the flesh, they constrain you to be circumcised, only that they may not suffer the persecution of the cross of Christ. For neither they themselves who are circumcised, keep the law; but they will have you to be circumcised, that they may glory in your flesh. But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ; by whom the world is crucified to me, and I to the world. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.

Galatians 6:12-15

The New Testament Reiterates Only Nine Of The Ten Commandments

Seventh Day Adventists deny the abolishment of the Old Covenant.

Part of their confusion lies in the fact that Christians have always practiced keeping 9 of the 10 Commandments strictly, while keeping the Sabbath Commandment in spirit only.

This is because the New Testament explicitly repeats 9 of the 10 Commandments.

Moreover, the New Testament doesn’t explicitly reiterate the Sabbath Commandment, which is why it doesn’t “break the new law” to change it to Sunday.

Let’s look at the passages in the New Testament to prove that it does reiterate 9 of the 10 Commandments.

Matthew 19:16-19

And behold one came and said to him: Good master, what good shall I do that I may have life everlasting? Who said to him: Why asketh thou me concerning good? One is good, God. But if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. He said to him: Which? And Jesus said: Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness. Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Matthew 19:16-19

Matthew 22:34-40

But the Pharisees hearing that he had silenced the Sadducees, came together: And one of them, a doctor of the law, asking him, tempting him: Master, which is the greatest commandment in the law? Jesus said to him: Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with thy whole heart, and with thy whole soul, and with thy whole mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment.

And the second is like to this: Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments dependeth the whole law and the prophets.

Matthew 22:34-40

Mark 10:17-19

And when he was gone forth into the way, a certain man running up and kneeling before him, asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may receive life everlasting? And Jesus said to him, Why callest thou me good? None is good but one, that is God. Thou knowest the commandments: Do not commit adultery, do not kill, do not steal, bear not false witness, do no fraud, honour thy father and mother.

Mark 10:17-19

Romans 13:9

For Thou shalt not commit adultery: Thou shalt not kill: Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness: Thou shalt not covet: and if there be any other commandment, it is comprised in this word, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Romans 13:9

1 Corinthians 6:9–10

Know you not that the unjust shall not possess the kingdom of God? Do not err: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, Nor the effeminate, nor liers with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor railers, nor extortioners, shall possess the kingdom of God.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10

1 Corinthians 8:6

Yet to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we unto him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

1 Corinthians 8:6

Ephesians 4:28

He that stole, let him now steal no more; but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have something to give to him that suffereth need.

Ephesians 4:28

Ephesians 6:1–2

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is just.

Ephesians 6:1

Colossians 3:5

Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, lust, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is the service of idols.

Colossians 3:5

1 Timothy 1:8–10

But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully: Knowing this, that the law is not made for the just man, but for the unjust and disobedient, for the ungodly, and for sinners, for the wicked and defiled, for murderers of fathers, and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, For fornicators, for them who defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and whatever other thing is contrary to sound doctrine,

1 Timothy 1:8-10

1 Timothy 2:5

For there is one God, and one mediator of God and men, the man Christ Jesus:

1 Timothy 2:5

1 Timothy 6:1

Whosoever are servants under the yoke, let them count their masters worthy of all honour; lest the name of the Lord and his doctrine be blasphemed.

1 Timothy 6:1

1 Peter 4:15

But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or a railer, or a coveter of other men’s things.

1 Peter 4:15

1 John 5:21

Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.

1 John 5:21

Revelation 21:8

But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, they shall have their portion in the pool burning with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.

Apocalypse (Revelation) 21:8

So as you can see, the New Testament reiterated 9 of the 10 Commandments.

The Apostles didn’t reiterate the Sabbath observance as a commandment.

However, they did keep the spirit of the Sabbath as a commandment in the New Covenant.

This is what we call the Lord’s Day.

The Lord’s Day Replaced The Sabbath

St. Paul actually tells us in the Bible that nobody can tell us that we are bound to the Sabbath.

Colossians 2:16-17

Let no man therefore judge you in meat or in drink, or in respect of a festival day, or of the new moon, or of the sabbaths, Which are a shadow of things to come, but the body is of Christ.

Colossians 2:16-17

Moreover, the Bible shows us that the Apostles started celebrated Mass on Sundays.

John 20:19

Now when it was late that same day, the first of the week, and the doors were shut, where the disciples were gathered together, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them: Peace be to you.

John 20:19

Acts 20:7

And on the first day of the week, when we were assembled to break bread, Paul discoursed with them, being to depart on the morrow: and he continued his speech until midnight.

Acts of Apostles 20:7

The “first day of the week” is obviously Sunday.

And assembling to “break bread” means celebrating Mass.

1 Corinthians 16:2

On the first day of the week let every one of you put apart with himself, laying up what it shall well please him; that when I come, the collections be not then to be made.

1 Corinthians 16:2

Revelation 1:10

I was in the spirit on the Lord’s day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,

Apocalypse (Revelation) 1:10

The Apostles never explicitly declared the Lord’s Day as the spiritual successor to the Sabbath in the Bible.

But if we read what the early Christians wrote outside of the Bible, it is clear that they celebrated Mass on Sundays.

Note that all of these following writings pre-date Emperor Constantine.

For some odd reason, the Seventh Day Adventism adherents believe that Constantine created the Catholic Church.

Even though there were Christian writings before Constantine was born referring to the “Catholic” church.

The Seventh Day Adventism adherents also believe that Constantine changed the Sabbath to Sunday in 321 AD.

So I will prove with documents written before 321 AD to show this is not the case.

The Didache – 70 AD

But every Lord’s day . . . gather yourselves together and break bread, and give thanksgiving after having confessed your transgressions, that your sacrifice may be pure. But let no one that is at variance with his fellow come together with you, until they be reconciled, that your sacrifice may not be profaned.

Didache 14

The Letter of Barnabas – 74 AD

We keep the eighth day [Sunday] with joyfulness, the day also on which Jesus rose again from the dead.

Letter of Barnabas 15:6–8

St. Ignatius of Antioch – 110 AD

[T]hose who were brought up in the ancient order of things [i.e. Jews] have come to the possession of a new hope, no longer observing the Sabbath, but living in the observance of the Lord’s day, on which also our life has sprung up again by him and by his death.

Letter to the Magnesians 8

St. Justin Martyr – 155 AD

But Sunday is the day on which we all hold our common assembly, because it is the first day on which God, having wrought a change in the darkness and matter, made the world; and Jesus Christ our Savior on the same day rose from the dead.

First Apology 67

The Didascalia – 225 AD

The apostles further appointed: On the first day of the week let there be service, and the reading of the holy scriptures, and the oblation [sacrifice of the Mass], because on the first day of the week [i.e., Sunday] our Lord rose from the place of the dead, and on the first day of the week he arose upon the world, and on the first day of the week he ascended up to heaven, and on the first day of the week he will appear at last with the angels of heaven.

Didascalia 2

Origen – 229 AD

Hence it is not possible that the [day of] rest after the Sabbath should have come into existence from the seventh [day] of our God. On the contrary, it is our Savior who, after the pattern of his own rest, caused us to be made in the likeness of his death, and hence also of his resurrection.

Commentary on John 2:28

St. Victorinus – 300 AD

The sixth day [Friday] is called parasceve, that is to say, the preparation of the kingdom. . . . On this day also, on account of the passion of the Lord Jesus Christ, we make either a station to God or a fast. On the seventh day he rested from all his works, and blessed it, and sanctified it. On the former day we are accustomed to fast rigorously, that on the Lord’s day we may go forth to our bread with giving of thanks. And let the parasceve become a rigorous fast, lest we should appear to observe any Sabbath with the Jews . . . which Sabbath he [Christ] in his body abolished

The Creation of the World

Eusebius of Caesarea – 312 and 319 AD

They [the early saints of the Old Testament] did not care about circumcision of the body, neither do we [Christians]. They did not care about observing Sabbaths, nor do we. They did not avoid certain kinds of food, neither did they regard the other distinctions which Moses first delivered to their posterity to be observed as symbols; nor do Christians of the present day do such things.

Church History 1:4:8 [A.D. 312]

[T]he day of his [Christ’s] light . . . was the day of his resurrection from the dead, which they say, as being the one and only truly holy day and the Lord’s day, is better than any number of days as we ordinarily understand them, and better than the days set apart by the Mosaic law for feasts, new moons, and Sabbaths, which the apostle [Paul] teaches are the shadow of days and not days in reality.

Seventh Day Adventism Denies “Unclean” Foods And Alcohol

Seventh Day Adventism teaches that eating “unclean” foods and drinking alcohol is wrong.

The Bible On “Unclean” Foods And Alcohol

As we have previously discussed, the Bible condemns the unceasing prohibition of food and drink:

Colossians 2:16-17

Let no man therefore judge you in meat or in drink, or in respect of a festival day, or of the new moon, or of the sabbaths, Which are a shadow of things to come, but the body is of Christ.

Colossians 2:16-17

Also, God created alcohol for the enjoyment of men.

Psalm 104:14–15

You make the grass grow for the cattle and plants for people’s work to bring forth food from the earth,
wine to gladden their hearts, oil to make their faces shine, and bread to sustain the human heart.

Psalm 104:14–15

Moreover, neither Christ, nor His Apostles, practiced abstinence from alcohol.

The first miracle that Christ performs in His ministry (at behest of His Mother) is to turn water into wine (John 2:1-12).

Christ talks about Pharisees criticizing Him for “eating and drinking”.

Luke 7:34

The Son of man is come eating and drinking: and you say: Behold a man that is a glutton and a drinker of wine, a friend of publicans and sinners.

Luke 7:34

Also, we know that Christ drank wine with His Apostles in the Last Supper.

Matthew 26:27-29

And taking the chalice, he gave thanks, and gave to them, saying: Drink ye all of this. For this is my blood of the new testament, which shall be shed for many unto remission of sins. And I say to you, I will not drink from henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I shall drink it with you new in the kingdom of my Father.

Matthew 26:27-29

Mark 14:23-25

And having taken the chalice, giving thanks, he gave it to them. And they all drank of it. And he said to them: This is my blood of the new testament, which shall be shed for many. Amen I say to you, that I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine, until that day when I shall drink it new in the kingdom of God.

Mark 14:23-25

Luke 22:17-18

And having taken the chalice, he gave thanks, and said: Take, and divide it among you: For I say to you, that I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, till the kingdom of God come.

Luke 22:17-18

And we know that Christ never sinned, if we trust the Bible.

1 Peter 2:21-22

For unto this are you called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving you an example that you should follow his steps. Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth.

1 Peter 2:21-22

Thus, we know that drinking alcohol is not a sin, since Christ drank alcohol and he never sinned.

However, we would agree with Seventh Day Adventism adherents that gluttony and drunkenness are sins.

Seventh Day Adventism Teaches “Soul Sleep” And Denies Hell

Seventh Day Adventism adherents believe that after we die we go into a state of unconsciousness until our resurrection.

They also deny that anyone goes to Hell for eternity, even after the resurrection of the dead.

The Bible Contradicts “Soul Sleep”

The Bible clearly establishes that there is an afterlife for the dead immediately upon death.

We will, again, prove this by pulling up passages from the Bible itself.

The Parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus clearly shows that people go to Heaven (or Limbo, in Lazarus’s case) Hell, or Purgatory, upon death.

Luke 16:19-23

There was a certain rich man, who was clothed in purple and fine linen; and feasted sumptuously every day. And there was a certain beggar, named Lazarus, who lay at his gate, full of sores, Desiring to be filled with the crumbs that fell from the rich man’s table, and no one did give him; moreover the dogs came, and licked his sores. And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom. And the rich man also died: and he was buried in hell. And lifting up his eyes when he was in torments, he saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom:

Luke 16:19-23

Other passages show that people go immediately to Heaven or Hell as well.

Luke 23:43

And Jesus said to him: Amen I say to thee, this day thou shalt be with me in paradise.

Luke 23:43

2 Corinthians 5:6-8

Therefore having always confidence, knowing that, while we are in the body, we are absent from the Lord. (For we walk by faith, and not by sight.) But we are confident, and have a good will to be absent rather from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

2 Corinthians 5:6-8

2 Corinthians 12:2-4

I know a man in Christ above fourteen years ago (whether in the body, I know not, or out of the body, I know not; God knoweth), such a one caught up to the third heaven.

2 Corinthians 12:2-4

Philippians 1:21-23

For to me, to live is Christ; and to die is gain. And if to live in the flesh, this is to me the fruit of labour, and what I shall choose I know not. But I am straitened between two: having a desire to be dissolved and to be with Christ, a thing by far the better.

Philippians 1:21-23

Hebrews 9:27

And as it is appointed unto men once to die, and after this the judgment:

Hebrews 9:27

So you die, immediately receive your judgment from God, and then go to Heaven, Hell, or Purgatory.

The Bible Affirms Eternal Hell

Seventh Day Adventism adherents believe that God will annihilate the reprobate in the Lake of Fire after the Resurrection.

Unfortunately, the Bible affirms the doctrine of Eternal Hell for the damned, as I will prove below.

Daniel 12:2

And many of those that sleep in the dust of the earth, shall awake: some unto life everlasting, and others unto reproach, to see it always.

Daniel 12:2

Matthew 25:41

Then he shall say to them also that shall be on his left hand: Depart from me, you cursed, into everlasting fire which was prepared for the devil and his angels.

Matthew 25:41

Matthew 25:46

And these shall go into everlasting punishment: but the just, into life everlasting.

Matthew 25:46

Mark 9:47-48

Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not extinguished. For every one shall be salted with fire: and every victim shall be salted with salt.

Mark 9:47-48

Revelation 14:11

And the smoke of their torments shall ascend up for ever and ever: neither have they rest day nor night, who have adored the beast, and his image, and whoever receiveth the character of his name.

Apocalypse (Revelation) 14:11

Revelation 20:10

And the false prophet shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

Apocalypse (Revelation) 20:10

I think it is pretty clear, as unfortunate as it may seem for Seventh Day Adventism adherents, that Hell is real and eternal.

More Errors Of Seventh Day Adventism

The Seventh Day Adventism adherents aren’t limited to these errors.

Seventh Day Adventism also denies the Biblical teaching of the Real Presence of the Holy Eucharist, which I have already written about.

Moreover, Seventh Day Adventism denies the Biblical teaching of Papal Supremacy, which I have also already written about.

Finally, Seventh Day Adventism makes the same errors as other Protestants and upholds the errors of Sola Scriptura and hatred against the Blessed Mother, which I have also already written about.

Speaking of “Sola Scriptura”, since it is obviously the case that Seventh Day Adventism adherents see Ellen White’s plagiarized writings as “inspired”, they are actually a “Duo Scriptura” sect!

In addition to all of these Biblical errors and the faults of their false prophet, it doesn’t make any sense that Christ would allow 1811 years to go by before establishing His true church!

In conclusion, Seventh Day Adventism is an heretical sect that is anti-Biblical and leads poor souls into eternal damnation!

Please pray for those who cannot flee such a sect through their own willful ignorance!
